Crossing the splendid Costa Viola, so called because of the sea water’s slightly purple colour at certain times of the day, you will reach Scilla, one of The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy (I Borghi più belli d’Italia). Considered the pearl of the Tyrrhenian Coast, the little Venice of Southern Italy, where majestic Ruffo di Calabria Castle and Chianalea are located, the latter being the characteristic fishermen’s neighbourhood with their typical boats. Here, overlooking the sea, you will have a delicious lunch.
In the afternoon, your trip will continue to Reggio Calabria with its National Archaeological Museum housing the famous Riace bronzes, an expression of Greek beauty, and a walk along the picturesque Lungomare (promenade) from which you can enjoy a marvellous view over the Strait of Messina. Before going back, it is highly recommended to enjoy a breathtaking sunset from S. Elia promontory, a place of legends, defined as “The Balcony on the Tyrrhenian Sea” where sky and sea mix in a combination of dreamlike colours.
