Day 2 – Walk on Mount Tre Pizzi

Breakfast at the Hotel. Departure for excursion to Mount Tre Pizzi. Walk along the most suggestive balcony on the Ionian Sea up to the top of the mountain. After about an hour and a half walk, the view is stunning and goes from Cape Bruzzano to Roccella Jonica, up to the main peaks of Aspromonte National Park. On the summit of Mount Tre Pizzi are the ruins of the small church of Santi Pietro e Paolo. On the way back, stop for a tasting of famous Caciocavallo di Ciminà, a Slow Food protected product. Lunch in a restaurant based on typical products. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Pietra Cappa and Rocche di San Pietro

Breakfast at the Hotel. Departure for a full-day excursion to Pietra Cappa, the highest monolith in Europe, and Rocche di San Pietro. They are both located in the north-eastern sector of Aspromonte National Park, known as “Valley of the Great Stones”. Among ancient chestnut and oak forests, we will admire huge, legendary monolithic rocks with extravagant shapes: Rocche di San Pietro, carved to house ascetic monks, Pietra Castello, with the remains of ancient fortifications, the imposing Pietra Longa and Stranghiolo roundabout. Packed lunch provided by participants. In the afternoon, return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4 – Ancient Aspromonte: trekking between Samo and Mount Perre, visit to the abandoned village of Precacore.

Breakfast at the Hotel. Departure for a journey through history in the south-eastern area of Aspromonte National Park. We will walk along ancient paths, in search of majestic centuries-old oaks on steep rocky slopes, crossing the ridges of Mount Perre and Puntone Galera. Stop for a picnic in an equipped area. Afternoon visit to Samo and the ancient abandoned village of Precacore. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5 – Trekking to Marmarico Waterfall

Breakfast at the Hotel. Departure for trekking from Ferdinandea to Marmarico Waterfall, the highest of southern Italy Apennines. The route to the waterfall is about 7 kms along a natural road until reaching a path that runs along Stilaro river. Once we get to the river, the path fords it and then climbs a short distance up to the waterfall, where it is possible to bathe in the small lake at the bottom of the third drop. For those with more expertise, there is the possibility of reaching the first drop as well. The route back takes the unpaved road to Bivongi. At the aqueduct bridge, it is possible to use jeeps to make the return trip off-road. Packed lunch provided by the participants. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6 – Departure

Breakfast at the Hotel. Return to headquarters.
